Komatsu Ltd. · Fiscal year ended March 2026
After the machine comes the jobsite: Komatsu at ¥4.1 trillion.
Komatsu still brings excavators, bulldozers and giant mining trucks to mind, and that image remains accurate. FY2025 net sales reached ¥4.133 trillion, and construction, mining and utility equipment remain the core. What has changed is the scope of the value Komatsu tries to deliver. Komtrax began connecting machines in 2001, autonomous haulage reached commercial mining in 2008, and Smart Construction began in 2015. The target gradually expanded from one machine to the data, people, terrain and workflow of an entire jobsite.
This is not investment advice or a stock recommendation. We reorder company-published primary-source facts to make the shape of the business easier to see.
Komatsu still brings big machines to mind.
Excavators. Bulldozers. Ultra-class mining trucks.
That image remains accurate.
Net sales are ¥4.133 trillion
The scale is visible in the physical network around those machines.
60 production operations and 55 sales operations
Komatsu today
Company information as of April 2026.
The company itself began with equipment for a worksite.
The origin was a mining iron works in 1921
For decades, the center of value was better machinery.
Then the operating data coming from each machine became part of the product.
Komtrax became standard in 2001
The next step was a machine that did not need a driver on board.
Autonomous haulage reached commercial mining in 2008
That early system has become a large operating fleet.
1,000 autonomous haul trucks
Automation also moved into construction.
ICT-intensive equipment arrived in 2013
But one intelligent machine cannot optimize an entire project.
Surveying, design, quantities, progress, people and equipment all have to connect.
Smart Construction began in 2015
That scope has continued to widen.
Terrain, progress and remote operation become one digital jobsite
The same shift is happening in mining.
Automation is expanding from vehicles to the mine system
Build a better machine.
See the machine through data.
Operate the machine autonomously.
Then connect people, machines, terrain and workflow into one system.
Komatsu’s technology expansion is less about entering an unrelated category than about making the unit of optimization larger.
THE VIEW AFTER THE NUMBERS
What the numbers suggest
Komatsu generated ¥4.1328 trillion of net sales and ¥567.3 billion of operating income in FY2025.
It remains clearly centered on construction and mining equipment.
But Komtrax made machine-operation data part of the offering from 2001. In 2008, Komatsu commercially deployed the world’s first autonomous haulage system for mining. By April 2026, the fleet had reached 1,000 autonomous ultra-class haul trucks and more than 11.5 billion metric tons moved.
Smart Construction, launched in 2015, connects surveying, terrain, machines and construction progress as one digital process.
Komatsu therefore did not stop being a machinery company.
It expanded from making machines work better, to seeing them through data, operating them autonomously, and optimizing the jobsite around them.
