Komatsu generated ¥4.1328tn of net sales and ¥567.3bn of operating income in FY2025. Construction and mining equipment remain at the center of the company. Komatsu began in 1921 when an iron works making equipment for a copper mine became independent. Komtrax made remote machine-operation data part of the offering from 2001. In 2008, Komatsu commercially deployed the world's first autonomous haulage system for mining. By April 2026, 1,000 autonomous ultra-class haul trucks had been commissioned and had moved more than 11.5 billion metric tons. Smart Construction, launched in 2015, connects surveying, terrain, machines and construction progress to optimize the entire jobsite. Komatsu did not stop being a machinery company; it expanded from making machines move better to making whole jobsites work better.
