Azbil’s test building alternates cool and warm air

Azbil supplies equipment and systems that measure temperature, pressure and flow and control equipment in buildings and factories. For buildings, it provides sensors, valves and air-conditioning control systems, along with maintenance and energy-efficiency improvements after installation.

Water in the pipes; control over the air

A schematic of equipment and people based on Azbil’s account of its No.103 experimental building.

Two water pipes feed the air-handling unit

Two water pipes, supply and return, connect the plant on the left to the central air-handling unit. Air passes through its coil and fan, then along a duct to the person at a desk on the right. The two outlets below represent cool and warm air supplied at different times.PlantWaterAir-handling unitAirCool-air periodWarm-air periodSwitch about every 20 min

Water temperature changes by season. The system switches between cool and warm air about every 20 minutes and adjusts airflow at each outlet.

Measure near people and adjust operation

A wireless sensor on a desk measures conditions near an occupant. Dashed lines show information and control relationships from the sensor to a controller and from the controller to the valve. A worker at lower right examines equipment data.Wireless sensorControllerValve

Desk sensors measure local conditions. Valve openings help determine whether the plant is needed; the plant and pumps stop when conditions allow.

Solid lines and broad arrows: water or air movement. Dashed lines: information and control relationships.

Not a pipework or control-engineering drawing. The cool- and warm-air drawings represent different times, not simultaneous supply. This is the company’s test-building example; customer buildings do not all share this arrangement.

THE VIEW AFTER THE NUMBERS

What the numbers suggest

Azbil’s test building combines the timing of cool and warm air, airflow at each outlet and the conditions for running the plant and pumps. Air-conditioning control includes deciding how equipment operates as well as making the devices.

For customers, Azbil offers services that turn operating data into improvement proposals and check the effects afterward. In the year ended March 2026, existing-building work, services and overseas growth lifted BA sales despite a decline in new-building work. There is more for Azbil to do after the building is completed.

JES maintains elevators across manufacturers

JES takes on the work needed to keep elevators in use. Servicing models from different manufacturers requires both parts supply and trained technicians. In the year ended March 2026, maintenance and repair generated ¥34.499bn of consolidated sales; modernization, which replaces major equipment, generated ¥21.801bn. Routine service and the ability to win and carry out modernization projects both support the same customer equipment.
