H.U. Group’s testing business returns to a ¥31m profit

H.U. Group provides outsourced testing to medical institutions, as well as diagnostic reagents and services such as sterilization. Its SRL subsidiary measures specimens from hospitals and clinics in its own laboratories, then sends the results back to those medical institutions.

Beyond a counter with specimen tubes and an unmarked report, a laboratory contains a robotic testing line and a specialist working at a microscope.

A small profit sits behind a ¥13.598bn depreciation charge

The results presentation reports segment EBITDA of ¥13.7bn. The company defines EBITDA as operating profit plus depreciation and goodwill amortization. It adds back certain expenses; it is not a cash-flow measure. In this segment table, monetary amounts are rounded to units of ¥100 million, displaying operating profit as “0.” The financial results report the finer ¥1 million unit and show a ¥31m profit (definition and rounding, PDF p.2; LTS results, PDF p.11).

THE VIEW AFTER THE NUMBERS

What the numbers suggest

H.U. Group’s testing business uses equipment and specialist staff to measure specimens arriving from medical institutions and return the results. In the year ended March 2026, testing growth, price adjustments and operating improvements brought it back to a ¥31m operating profit.

That remains a small surplus in a business carrying ¥13.598bn of depreciation. A laboratory’s ability to process specimens and its ability to earn a profit while keeping equipment and people at work need to be considered together.
