HORIBA checks gas flow by weighing it

HORIBA supplies analytical and measurement equipment to vehicle and semiconductor manufacturers, healthcare providers and research institutions. In semiconductor production, its devices control the flow of gases and liquids entering manufacturing equipment.

Measurement for calibration

A gas vessel rests on an electronic balance inside a vacuum chamber. As gas leaves through a pipe, its mass falls; elapsed time converts that change into a flow rate.

THE VIEW AFTER THE NUMBERS

What the numbers suggest

HORIBA checks gas flow by tracing it back to mass and time, then uses that reference for calibration. Behind the compact controllers supplied to semiconductor manufacturers are measurement facilities that manage vacuum conditions, temperature and vibration.

In FY2025, Materials & Semiconductor sales grew while accelerated R&D and technology investment contributed to lower operating income. HORIBA sells devices that control flow and develops the means to verify that flow.

Optical-laser production lifts demand for JEOL’s beam writers

JEOL’s electron-beam writers are used in making the gratings in DFB lasers for optical communications. Spot-beam orders and sales rose in the year ended March 2026, while fewer mask writers were sold and industrial-equipment sales declined. Following what each machine patterns, and where it sits in its customer’s production process, reveals different demand conditions within semiconductor-related equipment.
