The growing value of Nifco's parts per car

Nifco supplies plastic parts to automakers, component manufacturers and other customers. Small clips fasten panels, while dampers smooth the movement of gloveboxes and other fittings, supporting both assembly and the way a product feels in use.

Designing how a part holds and moves

Two jobs for small parts inside a car

One holds an assembly together. The other smooths a movement the driver feels.

Rising value per car does not settle group profitability

The group also has a beds and furniture business. The segment disclosure on p.7 reports ¥315.7bn of sales in plastics and ¥37.0bn in beds and furniture. Consolidated sales therefore cover more than parts installed in vehicles.

THE VIEW AFTER THE NUMBERS

What the numbers suggest

Nifco’s parts hold panels together and smooth movements inside a car. Its domestic average product value of ¥9,623 per vehicle gives a different view of the business from counting completed vehicles.

Winning a larger role within each car depends on the functions it can offer. Turning sales into profit also depends on worldwide demand and costs. Reading both measures makes the business behind these small plastic parts easier to understand.
