From microscopes to gastrocameras: Olympus at ¥1 trillion.
Olympus generated ¥1.0107tn of revenue and ¥97.1bn of operating profit in FY2025. Gastrointestinal Solutions generated ¥697.4bn, or 69%, while Surgical & Interventional Solutions generated ¥313.1bn, or 31%. Japan represented only 10% of sales, leaving roughly 90% outside Japan by site calculation. Olympus began in 1919 with domestic microscope production and developed the world's first practical gastrocamera in 1950. Its Imaging business was transferred in 2021, while Scientific Solutions was separated into Evident and subsequently sold. Today's Olympus is not a diversified optical conglomerate preserving every branch of its past. It is a medtech company that concentrated the long lineage of its technologies for seeing around endoscopy, intervention and treatment.
