Refrigerators, factory automation, and space: 105 years of electricity inside one company.
Mitsubishi Electric generated ¥5.8947tn of revenue and ¥433.0bn of operating profit in FY2025. Segment revenue was ¥2.3182tn for Life, ¥1.6738tn for Industry & Mobility, and ¥1.4634tn for Infrastructure; these figures include intersegment sales and should not be treated as clean shares of consolidated revenue. Mitsubishi Electric was established in 1921 from the electrical machinery works of Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's Kobe shipyard and initially produced transformers, motors and fans. Refrigerators followed in 1933, elevators and escalators in 1935, semiconductor research in 1952 and the MELSEC programmable controller in 1972. In space, Mitsubishi Electric was selected as prime contractor for Japan's first operational satellite program in 1969 and continued building satellites afterward. The company is not best understood as a home-appliance company, an FA company or a space company. It is a century-long expansion of electrical and control technologies into homes, factories, cities and orbit.
