A measurement company became the semiconductor industry's final gate.
Advantest generated ¥1.1286tn of net sales and ¥499.1bn of operating income in FY2025, for an operating margin of 44.2%. Sales rose 44.7% year on year. The company was founded in 1954 as an electronic measurement-instrument maker, introduced a successful digital frequency counter in 1957 and Japan's first digital voltmeter in 1963. In the late 1960s it committed itself to semiconductor test systems and launched Japan's first such systems in 1972. By 1985, Advantest says it had become the global leader in semiconductor tester market share. Advantest does not manufacture the chips themselves. It occupies the final measurement gate whose importance rises as semiconductor performance and complexity increase.
